Arts Live Activities 2016-2017

Welcome to Arts Live, your local community arts school run by Garforth Academy. Taking place mostly on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings, we offer a wide range of exciting and fun activities for all abilities & ages (unless otherwise stated).

The table below shows the groups we offer, subject to the number of enrolments we receive. We run multiple sessions for some groups so please indicate your preference when you enrol (see here for full details about enrolment).

Adult Community Choir
This community choir is led by Cleve Freckleton. The main aim is to come together to share in the joy of singing a wide range of music including gospel, soul, reggae and contemporary and classic popular music. Working towards performances and recordings if the group chooses, this group is suitable for people of any ability or experience level. £45 18+ Weds 19:00-21:00
Street Dance
Exciting and fun sessions delivered by Booma – BoomaDance for all abilities with regular performance opportunities £35 6-17 Thurs 17:30-18:30
Guitar Groups Develop your guitar skills with sessions for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels £30 (beginner)

Rock & Pop Bands These groups are suitable for instrumentalists and vocalists, with grade 2 or equivalent experience, who want to compose, perform & record original music. The group is led by professional musicians. £35 11-17 Thurs 17:45-19:00 (Year 7-9)

19:00-20:15 (Year 10+)

Junior Rock & Pop Bands These groups are suitable for instrumentalists and vocalists of any ability including elementary, who want to compose, perform & record original music. The group is led by professional musicians. £50 9-13 Wed 16:00-17:00 (group 1)

17:15-18:15 (group 2)

Folk and Acoustic Music
This is a community band for young and adult musicians at any level interested in folk and acoustic music. Rehearses once a week and performs regularly throughout the year. £35 11+ Thurs 17:30-19:00
Garforth Jazz Rock Band This is a high quality band with an outstanding reputation of regular gigs in professional settings, including The Wardrobe, Chapel Allerton Festival, Garforth Arts Festival. No audition required. Suitable for instrumentalists and singers who also play an instrument with grade 5+ or equivalent experience. £50 14+ Wed 18:30-20:45
Steel Crazy Adult steel pan group with performance opportunities £25 18+ Tues 19:15-21:15 only on certain dates-see here for details
Panic Attack Children’s steel pan group with performance opportunities £25 9-17 Thurs 16:00-17:00

Saturday 7th and Saturday 17th July

Due to the Garforth Arts Festival being held on Saturday the 7th July, there will be NO CLUBS or WORKSHOPS held this week.

The Masquerade Childrens Theatre and Guitar Club will hold their final sessions on Saturday the 14th July.

The Garforth Arts Festival!

It’s that time again! The Garforth Art’s Festival is upon us, next Saturday the 7th July!

 To celebrate this; year 3 and 4 primary students from all 8 of the trusts primary schools have decorated flags which can be spotted hanging from lamposts around Garforth!


Upcoming Arts Live! Performances

We have lots of exciting events coming up in line with the Garforth Arts festival!

  • Panjumbi – join us on the 26th June at The Lord Gascoigne from 4.30pm – 9.30pm for Steel Pan performances from primary children, Secondary students, teachers (Steel PANTS!!) and the Steel Crazy group. Entry is FREE!
  • Camerata Vocal Musica Aurea – Thurs 28th June come along to St Mary’s church to see the youth choir perform. This kicks off at 7.30pm and tickets are £7/£5.
  • Hannah James/Sam Sweeney – Come and witness the SLANIA group perform along with Hannah and Sam at Garforth Working Mens club on Tues 3rd July from 7.30pm. Tickets are a bargain at £8/£6!
  • Urban Arts Project – AMP are on hand to showcase their skills at this years Urban Art Project event held on Thurs 5th July at The Works Skatepark in Leeds. Tickets are £4/£3
  • The Playground Party – The big finale for the Arts Festival is, as ever, lining up to be one to remember! Come along to see countless acts with the streetdancers on hand to show off their moves! This is also another chance to see AMP perform.  Ticket prices vary and details are on the website.

AMP Recording

AMP 1 & 2 recorded some of their original compositions last week in Garforth Academy. One of the tracks will feature in the new Arts Live promo video – watch this space!



Out and About!

I’ve been visiting some of the local Primary Schools in the Brigshaw Trust to create 9 Olympic/Paralympic themed mosaics, to be displayed in Vicars’ Court. Here are some photos from Kippax Ash Tree Primary School, with their mosaic design on the theme of ‘respect’:

Art Club Exhibition!

10 members of the Arts Live Art Club exhibited their self portraits in Baraka Cafe on Garforth Main Street during half term. They looked absolutely amazing and really caught the imagination of passers by. Well done everyone!

Happy Half Term!

It’s half term this week, so there’s no classes of course!

Arts Live starts back next week (week beginning 20th February).
